Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan’s (in)famous full moon party!

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

ANOTHER DREAMY TROPICAL ISLAND

Samui is where you are surrounded by nature’s intimate coziness as you indulge in majestic sunsets and rejuvenate with the healing spas. The verdant greenery, palm fringed beaches and boundless seas make it a struggle to leave the blissful island.

Forever chasing sunsets 🙂

The road trip from Phuket to Donsak pier in Surat Thani followed by a ferry ride till Nathon pier brings us to Samui island. The road journey through Surat Thani mainland is every bit pleasurable. Wide roads, tropical breeze and scenic villages lined with colourful houses make us want to be here again.

And finally the soothing sun set at Nathon pier as we disembark welcomes us to this scenic island.

Lush landscapes, verdant vistas and idyllic life

BUT FULL MOON PARTY FIRST

Before we start exploring Samui the next day, we are going to unleash some wilderness at the legendary full moon party at the nearby Koh Pha Ngan island. So we quickly drop our bags at our hostel, take another ferry from another pier that would throw us in to the wild fire ignited by party beasts at Haad Rin beach, Koh Pha Ngan. We are in need of some rest but the thought of missing out is more fearful. A little party never killed nobody, right!

People have already lost it by the time we reach. All kinds of odd stuff is happening at the beach – the fire swing is ignited and freaks are jumping over, people are hooked to a makeshift pole, swinging and sliding, inebriated folks are zorbing, peeing, later puking and passing out on the beach. In a matter of hours, the place is transformed from a normal looking beach into the kingdom of Beelzebub with spirits roaming all around.

The ready-made booze kit, because who's got any time to waste?

Next thing we realize is that we are sleeping till noon at our hostel and we wake up feeling groggy, but since we are in the tropical paradise, it makes more sense to sleep on the beach. And we do that. We don’t know if this beach has a name coz it was found roaming aimlessly, but it’s our best discovery so far. The water is everything it should be – smooth, warm, calm and clear. Astounding in every sense.

We take some dips and doze off in the sweetest surroundings.

Sometime later, we are at the site of Grandma and grandpa rocks, it’s dark already and we have missed the real ‘view’, although we can still figure out ‘grandpa’ in the dark (LOL). Rocky ledges and stone boulders are cutting the gurgling waves and calming them. We are lying down on this huge rock by the sea that people have already left turning it into a secluded bliss. The sound of feeble music from nearby hostel is casting a lullaby effect on me.

So we are lying on that rock and naively discussing about how huge that distant red bulb is when it occurs to Ani that it might be the moon that day. Looks like it is!

The real treat is the Red Moon glowing over the horizon that day.

Did we see many places in Samui?  Nahh, just a random sandy beach to swim around and a couple of rocky beaches to drink landscapes. Peaceful moments at the Grandma and Grandpa rocks and Samui marketplace for sampling food, drinks and indulgent spas

How did we feel? Reborn ;)

WHAT NOT TO MISS: Take a dip in the cozy waters and unwind over a relaxing spa
